How can you support the Hoboken Community Center Pantry?

About The Pantry

The Hoboken Community Center Pantry is a community resource for supplemental food, hygiene and pet supplies in Hoboken, NJ as well as surrounding communities. The Pantry supports residents of the Hoboken Community Center Affordable Housing program as well as community members experiencing food insecurity or other hardships. The Pantry is a member agency of the Community Food Bank of NJ.

The Pantry has two programs: the Personal Care Pantry, which hosts monthly distributions of hygiene items like toiletries, menstrual products, baby supplies and pet food, and the Food Pantry, which hosts separate bi-weekly distributions of pre-bagged groceries, fresh produce and bread.

History

In 2019, the HCC opened a small food pantry to provide supplemental food to the 96 residents of the organization's Affordable Housing program. Immediately, unmet food insecurity was also identified among Hoboken's senior citizen population and distributions of non-perishable food and fruits and vegetables soon began. By March 2020 the pandemic caused greater need among residents in Hoboken and the HCC Pantry began offering supplemental food to anyone in the community experiencing food insecurity. Several months later the Pantry began proving personal hygiene supplies.

Today

The Pantry has over 3,000 registered clients. Over 30% of our clients are senior citizens and over 90% are 50% below the average median income level in Hudson County.
